Long distance is available from MetTel and required if you choose the Bundled Service plan. However, if you choose Measured Local Service, you can also get long distance service at a great rate of 3.5 cents/minute state-to-state, and as low as 2.8 cents/minute in-state (varies by state). While not provided by MetTel, this discount long distance can be ordered along with the MetTel Measured Local Service plan, or it can be ordered separately -- you don't have to have MetTel local service while getting long distance service. Key Benefits:
To obtain the Long Distance Service, you can sign up directly on line and it only takes about 2 minutes to sign-up. Remember, you can change both residence and business phone lines under this Long Distance Service. It is also independent of your MetTel Measured Local Service. Just click below for on-line sign-up. In addition, if you have any questions, just give us a call.

| AireSpring Group | Local telephone company |
| AIR A | Bell South, SBC (including former Pacific Bell, Nevada Bell, and Ameritech),

| AIR B | Broadwing (formerly Cincinnati Bell), Verizon (formerly GTE in California),
Frontier, SBC (formerly SNET), Sprint/United (the local company, not the long distance company) |
If you select Capsule Communications (CAP) as your long distance service, you will receive a bill from Capsule. The plan you will be signing up for is called the RiterateLD plan, and this is the title of the web page that will allow you to sign up on-line for Capsule's service. For Capsule Communication (CAP), the local telephone companies covered are: Ameritech, Bell South, Illinois Bell, Indiana Bell, Michigan Bell, Nevada Bell, Ohio Bell, Pacific Bell, Qwest (local phone company), Southwestern Bell, SNET, Verizon (eastern states -- not in CA or WI), and Wisconsin Bell. Again if your local telephone company is not in this list, then choose either ACC or RSL companies from the below table.
There are 4 long distance companies listed (2 for Airespring (AIR)): AIR has a 3.5 and a 3.9 cents/minute interstate rate depending on which of the two groups your local telephone company is listed (see above table). CAP has a 3.9 cent/minute interstate rate. The other two (ACC and RSL) have a 4.99/4.9 interstate rate.
AIR A and AIR B have no monthly service charge if your monthly bill is over $15, and if under $15, the monthly service charge of $2.99 can be waived if you pay automatically by credit card.
CAP has no monthly service charge if your monthly bill is over $20, and if under $20, the monthly service charge of $1.99 can be waived if you pay automatically by credit card.
ACC and RSL have no monthly service charge no matter how little you spend on long distance. Their interstate rates are higher, though, although sometimes their in-state rates are lower than AIR A, AIR B, and/or CAP
So this is how you choose:
If you do most of your calls within your state (intrastate), find your state in the below table and click on your state's intrastate rate that has the lowest intrastate rate listed. Click on a rate that is highlighted in blue. The other prices for your state that are higher (in black) will not have a reference to click on. Remember, if you click on your state's intrastate rate in the AIR A, AIR B, or CAP columns, your local telephone company must be in the covered areas described above.
If you are about evenly split between the total number of minutes of interstate and intrastate calls, then see if the lowest rate found between ACC and RSL is at least 1 cent lower than the CAP or AIR B rate, or is at least 1.4 cents lower than the AIR A rate. If it is at least 1 cent (1.4 cents) lower, then click on that lowest rate (in blue color, underlined) which will get you the largest savings. From the table below, for example, California is only 0.83 cents lower for RSL than CAP (CAP=4.73 vs RSL=3.9), so you would be paying 0.83 cents/minute higher for intrastate calls for CAP but save 1.00 cents/minute for interstate calls, so therefore it's better to go with CAP.
If you do mostly interstate calls (zero or just a few intrastate calls), then choose the lowest interstate rate (fuchsia color), then just click on the fuchsia color rate. For example, if you live in Arkansas and you have Bell South as your local telephone company (Bell South qualifies you for the AIR A rate), and you want the interstate rate of 3.5 cents/minute and you don't care about the intrastate rate because you make few if any calls within Arkansas, just click on the 3.5 cent/minute rate in fuchsia color in the AIR A column. You will be taken to AIR A (Airespring) web page that has the 3.5 cents/minute interstate rate and be able to sign up on-line for long distance service. As you would not be doing much in-state calling, then you would not care that Arkansas's in-state rate at 8.1 cents/minute is higher than the in-state rate provided by RSL at 6.9 cents/minute.
All the below companies have on-line signup except for RSL. RSL requires a single page simple paper form which can either be downloaded from our site, or give us a call and we'll email, mail, or fax you a copy.
If the intrastate rate is close in price between the different company's plans for your particular state, multiple rates for the companies are highlighted so that you can click on the plan that is better for you. For example, looking at the table below, Alabama rates for AIR A is 6.4 cents intrastate and 3.5 interstate (the fuchsia color), but if you do a majority of calls within Alabama (intrastate), the ACC in-state rate at 5.9 is better even though the state-to-state (interstate) rate is considerably higher (4.99) -- you would click on the 5.9 Alabama intrastate rate and your interstate rate would be 4.99 cents/minute. However, if you did most of your calls outside Alabama, then you would choose the AIR A rate plan, the plan that has the lower interstate rate of 3.5 -- you would click on the fuchsia colored 3.5 interstate rate for AIR A.
